We were driving home from OT yesterday afternoon, and the boys were acting very silly and fresh in the car. When Gabe hit Zach, I told him that he'd need to go to his room when we got home (Gabe's doing a lot of hitting lately; and I'm frustrated). Gabe then started to cry and cry. All of a sudden, Zach screams, "MOM, don't put Gabe in his room!" And when I ignore them both, Zach continues to scream and defend Gabe.
And then the crying stops suddenly. And I hear the following in the back of the car:
Gabe: (Solemnly) It is what it is, Zach.
Gabe: And it never gets better.
Oh, we have a dark cloud hanging over us, folks.

Happy Valentine's Day 2013!
Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!
Gabe's sick today, so he wasn't able to go to school. Fortunately, his school party is tomorrow, so we're crossing our fingers that he's better by then. Zach's healthy, so he was able to attend his school's Valentine's Day party today. The little bub celebrated his first school Valentine's and came home loaded down with treats (again, kids give out candy, pencils, etc. on Valentine's Day) in addition to the little valentine cards.
Here are some pics:

The Horrors Of The Grocery Check-Out
So, we were at the check-out line of the grocery story today. (The boys didn't have school today, and I had to take them on some errands.)
This older lady came into our line and smiled or laughed or something; and this is how things went:
Zach: You're funny.
Lady: Oh, really?
Me: **Nervously** You mean, the lady is funny because she was laughing?
Zach: You're funny.
Lady: Ignores him.
Zach: What's wrong with you?
Zach: **Louder and before I can say a word** What's wrong with you?
Lady: Ignores him.
Me: Sternly tells him that it's not nice to say that to someone and threatens to take away his McDonald's toy that's waiting for him in the car.
Zach: Screams loudly that he wants his toy.
Me: Tells him that if he doesn't stop crying, it will be even longer before he gets his toy back.

The Magic Of A New Necklace
So, I missed the big Blizzard of 2013. I was in Florida for the Whiffen Women's Weekend, where for the second year in a row, we all brought jewelry that we no longer wear and did a Yankee Swap. I took home one of Auntie Auntie's former necklaces - it's gold with maroon gems and gold leaves.
Soon after getting home, Gabe asked if I got a new necklace. He said that he loved it and that it was beautiful. He then gave it a kiss.
Later, at the dinner table, Gabe told me that he "couldn't keep his eyes off" of my new necklace. That it was so beautiful and that I looked so beautiful with it. Honestly, this boy of mine it just too much.
So, thanks, Auntie Auntie, for passing along this magical necklace!

Zachicia Keys
I've started to listen to more of my music when driving in the car with the boys (when I say more, I mean about 5 minutes before one of them asks to listen to their music).
Anyway, one day I was driving around with Zach, and we heard Alicia Keys new song, Girl On Fire. Later that day, Zach started belting out the following lyrics of the chorus, "This boy [Alicia says girl] is on fire"
He sings it so cutely, just like so, "This boy is on fie-----ya, this boy is on fie------ya-a--a--a-aaaa."
I got a taste of it on video today. It doesn't even do the impromptu signing justice. And when Zach gets in the car now, he asks for the "Boy On Fire" song.

Today's Zachisms
When Gabe was at school today, Zach made me smile SO much. Here's why:
We'd just finished dropping off Gabe at school, when the following conversation ensued:
Zach: Oh, no. I wanted to tell Gabe something, but now he's at school.
Me: Oh, no. What did you want to tell him?
Zach: I forgot to tell him that I saw a shirt with Snoopy on it when we were in Target (two days ago)."
Me: cue hysterical laughter.
This story may not seem funny to you. But, for me, I love that Zach had a story to share with Gabe. I love that he even says the name, Target. And I love that he recognizes Snoopy (who he hasn't had much exposure to) and that seeing a Snoopy t-shirt requires a discussion.
*******************************************************************************
As Zach was getting out of the car at Trader Joe's today, he said, "Mom, let's do an animal kiss." It took me a minute to realize that "animal kiss" meant Eskimo kiss. Gah!
********************************************************************************
I wasn't even singing (again today), when out of the blue Zach said, "Mom, you're a beautiful singer." He still tells me this a couple of times a day (at least!)

I Love You, Gabe
The boys were super amped today after school. So after lunch, I put a show on for them to try to get them to chilax a bit.
They sat closely and calmly on the love seat; and all of a sudden I heard Zach say, "I love you, Gabe." And then I caught him sniffing Gabe's head! Gah! The head-sniffing addiction is getting passed down to the next generation (Zach admitted to sniffing his friend, Jonathan's, head the other day, too!). Argh!
When Zach tenderly told Gabe that he loved him a second time, I had to jot this down in a post. These are those moments that I wish could last longer than a moment. Ah, well. At least they happen!
