First Day Of School - September 4, 2012

Both boys went to school today!  Zach had his first day of pre-school, and Gabe had his first day of pre-k.

When we first started talking to Zach about school, he was confused and thought that he'd be going to school in Cohasset.  He'd say, "I'm going to miss Nini"  or "Nini's going to take me to school."  You see, the camp that the boys attended in Cohasset this summer was held at a nursery school.  Looking back, it was the best experience to prepare little Zachie for a real school experience.

As we were waiting in the car line at school, Zach said, "this is the worst day of my life."  Wonder where he's heard that line before... It was a rainy morning, so there really wasn't time for us to delay at the car.  Zach went right off with his teacher and walked into school with Gabe.

Surprisingly, I didn't cry.  It all happened so fast, and any sadness that I felt turned quickly to thoughts of how Zach was doing in the classroom.

When I picked the boys up from school, Zach saw me and ran (away from the teachers), yelling, "Mama!  Mama!"  He seemed so happy and joyful.  He immediately told me that the teacher "hit" him "in the classroom."  Obviously, there was a story to be told.  Turns out, Zach admitted that he was being silly with the crayons and that the teacher took them away.  When I asked Zach who his friends at school were, he reported, "I can't quite remember.  Only Jonathan."  Again, he said, "this is the worst day of my life."  When I asked him why, he said that he was "just pretending."

Gabe seemed to have a great first day, too.  He reported that he didn't get any time-outs.  He didn't remember any of his friends' names, only Joseph.

It is so hard to believe that both of our boys are in school!
