I've been meaning to blog about this. Zach seems to think that any adult in authority (aside from familiar moms/dads) is a teacher.
We'll be at a store and he'll hear the loudspeaker and say, "what's that teacher saying, Mom?" Or we'll be in a museum, library, etc. and the workers are all "teachers". I think it's super cute.

Baby Cutie
When Gabe saw Baby Cody's picture for the first time, he said, "Mom, I think we should call him 'Baby Cutie'." Honestly, how sweet is he?
Welcome, Baby Cody!
Our new cousin, baby Cody, was born today! The boys are thrilled and want to meet him right away.
This morning, Zach and I were talking about baby Cody's birth:
Me: We have a new cousin, Zach! Baby Cody was born today.
Zach: I want to see Baby Cody.
Me: Me, too.
Zach: What about ours?
Me: What about ours, what?
Zach: What about our baby?
Me: We don't have a new baby. We have a new baby cousin.
Zach: I have a baby in my belly.
Me: You do?
Zach: Yea.
Me: What's your baby's name?
Zach: Another Baby Drew.
Me: Oh, another Baby Drew?
Zach: Yea. And Henry's got a baby in his belly, too.
Me: He does?
Zach: Yea. He named another Baby Henry.

The Best Restaurant I've Ever Seen
Want to know which is the best restaurant that Zach has ever seen? Papa Gino's. We ran some errands yesterday afternoon - on the hunt for Thanksgiving decorations (Gabe is very much into decorating for the holidays this year, which I love) - when Gabe asked if we should "get some dinner" while we were at the mall. Since both boys were pretty good while in the stores, I decided to let them eat out.
Zach loved our booth by a large window that looked into the mall. He was yelling hello to the shoppers walking by and exclaiming several times that this was "the best restaurant I've ever seen." His pure joy was catching and made me laugh and smile. And since he was about to eat some pizza, he truly was in his element.
When we went outside to get into our car, the snow was coming down heavily (our first snowfall of the season!), and Gabe stated, "it's Christmas night!" Good times.

Gabe Time
Have I posted about the fact that Gabe is no longer napping? I know. He's five years old now. It was bound to happen soon. Admittedly, the first week without a nap was the toughest - for mom, that is. You see, I'd gotten really used to my midday nap. Ever since my moped accident, I'd been in the habit of sleeping when the boys slept. And it was really, really nice.
Once my body adjusted to the lack of its daily siesta, I discovered that spending time with Gabe while Zach's still napping to be such a special time for us. Truly, we hadn't had much one-on-one opportunities, and Gabe is such a relaxed, easygoing little guy when he doesn't have to contend with his little brother.
So, needless to say, I've been enjoying a lot of Gabe time these days. I still require him to have one hour of "quiet time" in his room; and he's so good about playing (relatively) quietly in there. But after quiet time, Gabe and I have our special together time; and lately we've been playing a lot of transformer make-believe games.
Yesterday, with Jason home on a Saturday, Gabe and I took off to Essex for a little antiquing in the afternoon. I'd seen on a blog how a mom used a printer's tray as a nature box, and I thought that was such a fabulous idea. We find so many interesting leaves, rocks, shells, etc. of our own, so I thought it'd be fun to have a place like that to store our loot. Gabe was down for the idea, and we had a great time puttering in a couple of stores.
Of course he cracked me up by saying, while looking at all of the cool "old things," that he wanted to be an antique. I think he is an antique, actually. And a prime example of this fact occurred when we were driving home from our excursion. Gabe started eating some pretzels that he'd been munching on during the drive earlier that afternoon. All of a sudden, he gave the pretzels to me, exclaiming, "I better not eat these pretzels, Mom, or I won't have my appetite for dinner." Seriously? What five-year-old stops himself from spoiling his dinner? Oh, my little toddler relic!

he got a big kick out of this knight
look at him holding the knight's hand!
back at home with some treasures already tucked inside our box!
Gabe had a bad cold at the end of the week and missed his friend, Zoe's, Eloise-themed birthday party. When we dropped the present off, Zoe's mom gave us his party favors. Later, I turned around in the car to find that Gabe had put the party favors on - the bow tie, glasses, and necklaces. It was such a cute surprise!
I got a big kick out of it!

Trick or Treat 2012
Halloween Day 2012, was a long day. The boys were up and about by 5:50 am, wanting to get dressed into their costumes and get the trick or treat show started. Unfortunately, there was no school (teacher day), so keeping them entertained for 12 hours prior to trick or treat was a bit rough.
We ended up running some errands in the morning, and then Gabe had his first karate lesson in the afternoon. Getting him on board with karate was challenging; I think the idea of doing anything but donning a costume was just not going to cut it. In the end, he went and seemed to enjoy it. Phew.
Nini & Poppa and Auntie Auntie came over in the early evening to share in the Halloween festivities. By this time, however, Gabe had spiked a fever and seemed to be feeling very tired. He rallied for trick or treating but wanted to go home and hand out the candy after hitting only about a dozen houses.
Auntie Auntie, Jason, and I took Zach out to hit a few more houses in the neighborhood. He was super cute and enthusiastic about trick or treating. After each house, he'd proclaim, "let's hit the bricks." And when he was at the door, anxious to take his candy and run, he'd announce to the homeowner, "I want chocolate." We'll have to work on some manners for next year. Tee hee.
About halfway down the street perpendicular to our house, Zach asked to go home, reporting that he didn't want to get lost. Even though we all assured him that we knew the way and wouldn't get lost, he seemed to have enough and was probably a bit scared of the dark.
All in all, it was a good, highly anticipated Halloween. Here are the pics:

ringing our neighbor, John's, bell
Zach had to scrunch his shoulders and look up to keep his mask in place. Gah!
we got our loot!

so excited for Nini & Poppa to answer the door
look at his face and those folded hands!
Some Zachie Cuteness
Last night Gabe got Zach into his pajamas again. I was resting at the time (and so I didn't get to experience this cuteness; but Jason told me about it). This is the cutest conversation ever that transpired during pajama time:
Zach: Gabe, I love you.
Gabe: I love you, too.
Zach: You're my bruva.
Zach: And I'm your sister.

Tonight, Zach I and were snuggling on the couch, watching Little Einsteins. All of a sudden, he asked, "Mom, can I pee pee in my pull-up whenever I want?" When I said, "of course," I suddenly felt his little belly stick out a little bit. Why on earth he asked permission to go in his pull-up is beyond me. But. He's one cute little guy.
