We ended up running some errands in the morning, and then Gabe had his first karate lesson in the afternoon. Getting him on board with karate was challenging; I think the idea of doing anything but donning a costume was just not going to cut it. In the end, he went and seemed to enjoy it. Phew.
Nini & Poppa and Auntie Auntie came over in the early evening to share in the Halloween festivities. By this time, however, Gabe had spiked a fever and seemed to be feeling very tired. He rallied for trick or treating but wanted to go home and hand out the candy after hitting only about a dozen houses.
Auntie Auntie, Jason, and I took Zach out to hit a few more houses in the neighborhood. He was super cute and enthusiastic about trick or treating. After each house, he'd proclaim, "let's hit the bricks." And when he was at the door, anxious to take his candy and run, he'd announce to the homeowner, "I want chocolate." We'll have to work on some manners for next year. Tee hee.
About halfway down the street perpendicular to our house, Zach asked to go home, reporting that he didn't want to get lost. Even though we all assured him that we knew the way and wouldn't get lost, he seemed to have enough and was probably a bit scared of the dark.
All in all, it was a good, highly anticipated Halloween. Here are the pics:

ringing our neighbor, John's, bell
Zach had to scrunch his shoulders and look up to keep his mask in place. Gah!
we got our loot!

all done and trick or treating at our house at the end of the night
so excited for Nini & Poppa to answer the door
look at his face and those folded hands!
