Gabe's been talking for months about wanting a watch of his own. He'll put J's watch on his puny wrist and say that he's just going to wear it for a little while. I'm always afraid that he's going to drop the watch and break it, so we've been talking about getting him a watch for his birthday.
Recently, J remembered that he inherited a Swiss Army watch from Uncle Brian, and he thought it'd be the perfect watch to hand down to Gabe. Granted, we'll need to take special care of Gabe and the watch, but it has a leather band that is less likely to break (than J's silver watch).
After Gabe got over his early morning anger and the family hung out in my room for a while, I told Gabe that we found him a watch of his own and that it was in our bathroom. He went and got the watch and was holding his breath as I put it on his wrist. He was SO excited and thanked both of us many times. He walked down the stairs telling J that he was so excited about his new watch.
As I'm lying in bed, I hear him tell J that the watch isn't ticking. I don't think that watch has worked for years, as the battery is super old. Well, J told him that the watch was working, but that it had a really silent tick. Gabe was not fooled. He still told J several times after that that the watch wasn't ticking. He's definitely on to us. We'll have to get a new battery soon. He also told J that it was 6 o'clock. He's just too cute.
