Remember when I blogged last month about Gabe's school project - to make a poster all about himself? I was shocked that he was expected to make a poster at age 3.5. Remember?? Well, the project was NOT to make a poster. The project was to fill in the blanks on the paper that said, "My Very Own Poster." What?? So, Gabe and I made an actual poster, I sent him off to school with it, and it turns out all we had to do was fill in the blanks and add some pictures to a PIECE of paper. Why am I so concrete in my thinking???
Today, Gabe came home with his poster. And when we got home and opened up Gabe's backpack, there was a binder inside. And inside the binder were the "poster" paper/pages of all of the kids in his class. The teacher put each of the students' papers in plastic sleeves and put them in a binder. Then each of the students evidently has been given a turn to take the binder HOME, so that their families can learn about their classmates.
Have you figured it out, yet? So, each time a student has taken home this binder, they've had to lug home Gabe's huge poster board, since the poster obviously doesn't fit into a 3-ring binder. Holy crap. I was mortified. Naturally, Gabe wanted to look through the binder and read it over and over and over this afternoon. It was a wretched feeling looking through this book. I mean, how was I the only mom who didn't get it? What is wrong with me?
So, now all of Gabe's classmates and families know that I'm a struggle. Or, they think that we're trying to brown nose the teacher by creating the biggest, bestest "poster" page of all. Ugh. Poor Gabe!!! I just want him to have his own page in that book! I e-mailed the teacher and asked if I could pick up another poster worksheet so that Gabe will have something to put in the book (and so these kids don't have to lug that dang poster around). But, I haven't heard back from her today. Gah!!!
Remember this?
here's the little bug making his "poster"
and here's the poster
and here's what we were supposed to do!
this is Gabe's buddy, Jay, who he's always talking about
Jay
and here's J.J., another one of Gabe's pals
J.J. (Jason thinks he looks a lot like himself when he was younger)
here's the book
and here's the book with Gabe's poster behind it
all of the kids had to bring that honking poster home!!!
You can only hope that the teacher was smart and sent the humungo poster of Gabe's just to your house... maybe that's why you haven't heard from her (then she'd have to fess up?) It just shows how earnest you are and that's a good thing. She did have a terrific idea though.
