Still Slogging Along

Today was kind of a bummer of a day.  I delightedly made Zach a PB&J snack this morning, and he refused to eat it.  I guess yesterday's PB&J was a fluke.  Gar!

When he refused his pasta dinner tonight and threw himself on the floor, we went back to kissing the pasta in exchange for the baby food.  It took a long time, and it felt like pulling teeth to get him to do each kiss.  This is a long journey, folks.

I gave the boys their final (toxic) cupcake after dinner.  Gabe thinks that Auntie Auntie delivers cupcakes when they're sleeping, as if she's the cupcake fairy or something.  Despite my telling him numerous times that this was the last cupcake, I have a feeling he's going to ask for another cupcake tomorrow (when he wakes up from his nap).

Here are some pics of the electric red cupcake feast.  This time, Zach savored every morsel, and Gabe ate his in a flash.

Elmo had an accident and got squished - the boys didn't even notice

I love toxic cupcakes!

Me, too!

it looks like Zach had a party with some red lipstick

frosting on my cheek

love this shot - Gabe's cupcake high is starting...

savoring every crumb

look at that face!

it looks like he caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror

New Foods Update

Yesterday was a HUGE day for Zach.  Not only did he eat PB&J for a snack, but he also ate an ENTIRE greek yogurt for lunch (with some jam added for sweetness).  And he ate some chicken & pasta for dinner.  Holy protein!  I feel like I'm finally starting to see some progress.  We broke his two-week dinner hunger strike!  I hope I can look back one day at this food struggle and find the humor.

Today's Good One-Liner/Gabe's Incredible Memory

Gabe watched the Lion King movie once (on New Year's Eve) almost four months ago.  We read the Lion King book for a couple of months, and then we realized that Gabe was acting out the freshness in the movie.  He pretended to be a fighting lion by kicking and hitting Henry, he quoted angry language from the book, and he clung to the idea that you fight "bad guys" with violence.  See you later, Lion King movie/book.  We "lost" them a long time ago.  We'll find them when Gabe's a little older.

Today, Gabe came up to me and said, (again, this is a DIRECT quote), "Simba, I am your father, Mufasa.  You must take your place in the circle of life."

Seriously???

Thanks, Auntie Auntie

Auntie Auntie brought some (toxic) adorable (electric colored) cupcakes for the boys the other day. With Gabe being sick, we weren't able to eat them.  This afternoon, I let the boys share the cookie monster cupcake (they have no idea that there's an [electric red] Elmo cupcake still in the fridge......)  Little did Auntie know that Zach is obsessed with cookie monster these days.  I think it's because he likes the way that I imitate cookie's crazy cookie rant.

Zach ate his half before Gabe had even brought his cupcake to his lips.  In the end, Zach had an upturned handlebar mustache frosting mark above his mouth and spots of frosting IN, on, and behind his ear.  These boys love their sweets.

Here are some pics of the cupcake happiness:

that would be a small chocolate chip cookie in cookie monster's mouth

Can you see the upturned handlebar mustache?

here it is again.... too funny

there's a little frosting spot inside the ear

behind the ear

basically all over the ear

Hooray for PB&J!!!!!!!!!

I tried peanut butter and jelly with Zach at snacktime this morning and he ate it!!!!!!!!!!!  I can't even get Gabe to eat PB&J!  He ate it!!!  (And he ate some chicken and rice last night for dinner!)

Here are some pics from yesterday's snacktime.  We ate whole wheat chick pea & chocolate chip cookies.  They're actually super yummy and both boys will eat 'em!

we're all done with the photo shoot

And here are the pics from today's PB&J snacktime:

Yes, he's playing with the butter knife.  Whatever it takes to get him to eat big people food.  He's being supervised.

That's jelly on my upper lip

I like PB&J!!!!!!

Baby Drew

Just this minute, Gabe crashed his fire truck into Zach's school bus, and Zach fell forward, hitting his mouth on Gabe's truck.  I scooped a crying Zach up and went to sit with him on the couch.  He was crying and crying, and then all of a sudden he started talking, smiling, and pointing.  I turned to look at what he was pointing at and saw that it was the picture of baby Drew!  Seriously?

Is it a Daddy Day?

On Saturday morning, Gabe asked if it was a school day when he woke up.  I love how Gabe differentiates the days by school days now.  When I told him that it wasn't but added that it was a "Daddy Day" because daddy would be home with us all day, Gabe got very excited.  He now asks if it's a daddy day or a school day when he wakes up.  Ca-ute!

Is Auntie Lonely?

Recently, Gabe asked Auntie who she lives with, and Melissa told Gabe that she lives on her own.  I don't know the details of the conversation, but evidently Gabe's still processing the idea of "alone".  Out of the blue this morning, Gabe asked me if Auntie is lonely.  When I asked him why he thought that Auntie would be lonely, he said that it's because she lives "all alone."  He then asked if Auntie Tee Tee lives with her - he was trying to reassure himself that someone's there with her, and he remembered that Tee Tee lived there at one time.  What a love!

Catching Up

I can't believe that it's been almost a week since my last post.  It was a LONG week last week.  We're still working hard to get Zach to come around to big people food.  It'll be two weeks today that he's gone without eating dinner.  Last Friday, he refused breakfast (and hadn't eaten dinner the night before), because we made him an omelet.  This past weekend he didn't stop fussing - I'm sure his hungry belly is driving him nuts.  Yet, he remains stubborn and simply will not eat what he doesn't like by sight or feel.  Argh!!!

Poor Gabe had a movie date with Auntie Auntie yesterday but threw up before they even left the house.  So, he was in rough shape most of the day yesterday.  Thankfully, he seems to be feeling better today, although he's still quite pale....

Two poor little boys!!!

Here are some pics from last week:

Eating my first piece of French Toast!

I like french toast!

I like french toast, too!

Breakfast for two

We planted Christmas tree seeds in the little pot on the left and put a dinosaur egg in water to watch it hatch

waiting for my tree and dinosaur to grow

obsessed with my dino egg

Zach saw Gabe's hand picture and tried to put his hands on top of Gabe's!!  so cute!

Seriously?  How cute is that?

Eating chicken nuggets and french fries on Saturday night

Zach ate french fries!!!

He held each fry with two hands

This is how Zach sits at the table - with his legs resting on the shelf underneath

I get a huge kick out of it

Daddy took this picture - not sure what he's watching (probably a video of himself)
