Happy Moon Day!

So, when I heard on the radio that the moon would be a "super moon" on Saturday night, I knew that Gabe had to see it.  We all know how CRAZY this boy is for the moon.  When I told him about the super moon, he was all for it.  He hasn't been napping this week (which better not be the new normal), so I told him that he had to take a nap on Saturday if he wanted to stay up late to see the big moon.  Naturally, he got very excited at the thought of staying up to see this super moon, so I asked him if we should get a cake for the occasion and have a moon party.  That idea got him even more jazzed.  He added that we needed cupcakes, too; not just a cake.

Auntie Auntie came over yesterday morning to babysit, and she made some cool moon banners for the party.  All afternoon, Gabe couldn't stop talking about the moon, the party, and the cake.  And when he heard that Mo Mo, George, and Auntie Auntie were coming to the party, he was practically bouncing off of the walls.

Aren't they awesome??

So, we ordered a cake from a bakery that Melissa had recommended.  J and I went to buy the cake, and we asked them to draw a moon on it.  We asked for a yellow moon with a white border and for it to say "Happy Moon Day".  They asked us to come back a few hours later to pick it up.  Okay.  I kind of wanted to take it home right then and there, but we could wait.  On the way out of the bakery, I noticed that there were several Food Network Challenge awards hanging on the wall.  J thought they were fake awards.  Well, I'm pretty sure the awards are legit.  Check out this cake:

What????

A-mazing!

The party was great!  We had pizza for dinner, and Zach ate some pizza!!!  Huge accomplishment!!!

The boys had a hard time waiting for cake time.

Zach's lunging for the cake

When we pulled Zach away from the cake, he got so mad that he banged his head on the (stone) counter

After we ate the cake, Gabe was literally BOUNCING off the walls.   Major sugar high (or fondant high).

"Happy Moon Day to you, Happy Moon Day to you..."

So excited!

Here's a link to a video that Melissa took of us singing "Happy Moon Day to You"

It felt like forever before the moon made its appearance.  We were running from the front of the house to the back.  We were looking outside in the backyard and from different windows inside.  Finally, we saw it from the front porch.  It was big and yellow and then turned white.  A black cat appeared out of nowhere and wanted to join the party, too.  Good times!
