School Projects Already??

So, Gabe's 3.5 and in preschool.  I never would have imagined that we'd stay up until almost 9:00 pm working on a school project together.  Yet, he has to make a poster about himself for school, and it's due tomorrow.  It actually was a lot of fun to do (even though it still seems crazy to have school projects at this age).  I had to ask him what he wanted to be when he grows up (a concept that was pretty hard for him to grasp) - he talked about wanting to play with cars and trucks and dinosaurs; until I remembered his obsession with the moon and suggested that he might want to be an astronaut, to which he agreed.  We also had to write down 3 wishes; again, this was a hard concept to grasp.  Ultimately, his three wishes were to play with trucks, to play with dinosaurs, and to go to the moon.  When making the poster, we were asked to make collages and to use pictures from magazines.  Poor guy - he had to use pictures from the only two magazines that I have in the house - Oprah & Martha Stewart.... 'magine?

The sweetest, most wonderful part of this project was when Gabe got really happy, and he grabbed my arm and hugged me and said thank you for helping him. He was just so excited and happy, and it's hard to explain how he was - but it was kind of magical.  He really loved the one-on-one and the act of creating something together - which is probably what the teachers wanted.............and it made me realize how much Gabe really does like drawing and creating.  I need to make more time for that.

Here are some pics from our project making:

Cheese!

The big boy!

It took more time to create the poster than this picture would have you think

Gabe's 3 Wishes

A few of Gabe's favorite things (books, presents, Santa, dinosaurs, broccoli, coloring, trucks, diggers, Thomas the Train, ice cream, Lightning McQueen, fire trucks, cucumbers, bats?, ghosts?).  We had some Halloween stickers on hand, which is why I think he added ghosts and bats to his "Favorite Things" section.

Things that he doesn't like (spiders, thunder,
lightening, rain, and mean witches)

A picture of Gabe's family.  Auntie Auntie, Baby Drew, and Auntie Alanna made the "family" cut.  He talked about cousin Cameron, too; but then didn't add him to the family constellation.  Sorry to those of you who were left out!

Having fun

  1. That project is really cute! Although it seems more like it was a "me and my mom doing 90% of the work (what with her ability to write/cut paper/ and understand the concepts)" school project... xo
