Q Tips

Jason thought I should post this story.  Yesterday, Zach and I were in the bathroom when Zach started taking things out of the door under the sink.  I looked down to find 5 soap dispensers, shampoo bottles, etc. on the floor around him.  It always amazes me how much damage can be done in a millisecond.  I started to put the bathroom supplies back in the cupboard when I noticed that Zach had also taken out about 15 Q Tips.  As I picked them up, I noticed that some of them had wax on them (eww.  sorry - this is the part of the story that's a bit ghastly).  And when I looked at Zach again, he was sticking a Q Tip in his ear.  So, in the matter of a millisecond, he'd taken out a bunch of stuff from under the sink and stuck several Q Tips in his ears.  The first thought that crossed my mind was that he's a smart kid to remember what Q Tips are used for.  My next thought was that he must need an ear cleaning since some of the discarded Q Tips had wax on them.  So, when I went to clean his ears he started fussing and pushing my hand away.  I tried again and he was really upset, and then he just grabbed the Q Tip from my hand and put it into his ear.  That boy wanted to clean his own ear!  I watched him but was really nervous because I was afraid he'd poke his eardrum.  It just amazes me how independent Zach wants to be.  I mean this kid has been feeding himself (albeit making quite a mess) since he was just a year old.  These two little boys are so different - it's amazing.
