Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I'd pretend to be a spinning wheel one day. I'm sure it would have happened sooner or later, but one day Gabe and I were hanging out and I pretended to be one of his toy men. It was a construction guy from one of his over-sized trucks and I just started talking to Gabe as if I was the guy. Gabe LOVED it. From then on, when he wanted me to pretend to be the guy, he'd say, "talk a man." Later, he'd ask me to talk for anything and everything in his sight. He'd say, "talk a truck, talk a fork, talk a cool car, etc." Later, he'd let me know that he wanted to pretend talk by saying, "let's talk trucks," and I'd always have to move the object that was talking from side to side to make it look as if it was an animated object.
So, my old dollhouse had a lot of pretend furniture and other (odd) furnishings in it when I brought it home for the boys. Some of the furniture I remembered, others I didn't; like two miniature spinning wheels. I'm not sure why my sister and I had spinning wheels in our dollhouse; but there were a lot of antique things in there, like grandfather clocks, a dry sink, and an antique stove. I wonder if my parents bought those things for us since our own home was filled with antiques? In any event, this morning, Gabe took out the two spinning wheels and said to me - and I did not see this one coming - "let's talk spinning wheels." What does one spinning wheel say to another spinning wheel? I had no idea; so I asked my go-to question, the question I start with every time we "talk". I said, "what's your name?"
After his spinning wheel broke (he spun it so fast that the wheel popped right off), we went on to talk grandfather clocks. Are all kids like this? I find him so funny.
